Haha,I think I am able to tell the differences as my siblings including me went through three different pre-university courses.
I am not quite sure about A-level.(perhaps you may ask your seniors)
These three pre-university courses are some sort of tickets/passport to enter local universities.
STPM
In my opinion,it is really very tough as I had went to tuition for two months.(not joking, very TOUGH)
This is the reason why STPM is the 3rd hardest examination in the world.
In STPM,you are required to take four subjects(or 5 subjects) and Pengajian Am is the compulsory subject.
For Science Stream students,Biology/Physics,Chemistry,Mathematics(T) and Pengajian Am.
STPM is divided into three semesters.(The duration of STPM is 1 and half year).
Many people opt to take STPM as their pre-university course as they have financial problems.
Local Matriculation
In Matriculation, you are required to take four subjects too.
Package A:Biology,Chemistry,Physics and Mathematics
Package B:Biology,Chemistry,Computer Science and Mathematics
Package C:Chemistry,Physics,Computer Science and Mathematics
The syllabus in matriculation is not easy though but it is comparatively easier than STPM as it is easier to score a CGPA of 4.0 compared to STPM.
But you still need to join co-curricular activities.
Asasi IPTA
I had no ideas of Asasi from other universities except Asasi UPM.
In UPM,you are required to take Chemistry,Biology,Mathematics,Physics,Agriculture,English(for two semesters) and Computer Science(for one semester).
Agriculture is one of the subjects to help students to score! =)
The syllabus in Asasi IPTA is quite different.(We use books from external source which couldn't be found in book shops(MPH,Popular).
Only students from Asasi UM(PASUM) and Asasi UiTM(PALAM) are able to apply to other local universities.
For students from Asasi UKM,Asasi UPM and Asasi UPNM(etc),you are only able to pursue your degree in that particular university.
I would say Asasi IPTA is at the middle in terms of scoring.
The advantage of being an Asasi student(except PASUM and PALAM),
-need not to fight places(degree placement in universities) with others(eg Matriculation students and STPM students) through UPU
-a confirmed place in that particular university
-no co-curricular activities ^^
The disadvantage of being an Asasi student
- you are attached to that particular university
*Many people don't really know about Asasi actually.
I didn't know too till I get it hehe.
All the best and good luck! Make a wise decision!
